Newark Mayor Cory Booker rescued his neighbor from a burning building when he came home to find his neighbors house on fire. A woman screamed that her daughter was still inside and Mayor Booker sprung into action running into the burning house and pulling the woman to safety.
“It was a really frightening experience for me. I didn’t think we were going to get out of there,” Booker said.
He said later that he feared for his life but couldn’t let his neighbor die in the fire. “I did not feel bravery, I felt terror. It was a very scary moment. I couldn’t breathe. It was a moment I felt very religious,” he said.
